Eye stalks for everyone!

After a failed attempt to steal magic items (Poor Aziz paid the price), we engaged the beholder like creature. After killing the creature I learned this a creature called Spectator. Killing it we soon found 2 magically items, the first a mace named Lightbringer. It radiates light when commanded and does radiant damage. Next, a breastplate of awesomeness versus dragons breath (advantage on saves). We proceeded to navigate around the fungal grove area that lead to more undead (ghouls and such). We also killed another pudding type creature that seemed a bit different. We discovered a wave pool type area and believe this the source of the loud booming noises we once heard. We wrapped up the session at T intersection with 2 doors left. Lets hope the Black Spider is here…

Unkillable Zombies

We talked Korgeth into having four of his bugbear warriors accompany us back into Wave Echo Cave to search for the Black Spider. Norbeck came back to join the party, after he gave Nundro a pick and some rations to aide him in his journey back to Phandalin. We also found out that the matching jeweled daggers held by Norbeck were Daggers of Messaging. When a person talks into one dagger, the person holding the other dagger can receive the message. With our newly found communication devices, we proceeded back into the depths of Wave Echo Cave.

First, the Bugbears told us about a spot where the Black Spider believed a hidden artifact was hidden below the surface of the ground. The Black Spider was correct, and we found a pair of Gauntlets of Ogre Strength. Next, we punked some undead and continued on our journey. Eventually, we arrived at a room with a green flaming skull and a buttload of zombies.

The green flaming skull scorched three of the bugbear warriors with one fireball, splashed us with a flaming sphere, and continued to pelt us with magic missiles. The zombies seem to revive when ever we kill them. The good news is that the zombies can’t seem to leave the room. There is some sort of invisible magical barrier that keeps the contained in the room.

The night ended when we decided that we have had enough of unkillable zombies and chose to retreat. Unfortunately, the party was split up during the retreat. Half the party was in one hallway, separated from the rest of the group by the room containing the unkillable zombies.

Meeting the Black Spider

We heard some voices coming from behind a stone door. They were speaking in Goblin about how hungry they were. We had Korgeth knock on the door and tell them we had food for them. A bugbear opened the door, and we were able to explain how we had slain Grol. Rara wore the bracers of Grol, and Korgeth was the new leader of Craigmaw Keep.

The bugbears let us in and after some conversation, agreed to swear fealty to Korgeth. Five bugbears joined our party. They informed us that more bugbears were searching the caves to the north, and that the Black Spider was in a temple in the northwest section of the caves.

We first headed to the north to gather more bugbears for our party. Four more bugbears were at the site, and now we had 10 bugbears in total including Korgeth. We took our party to the temple to confront the Black Spider.

In the temple we found the Black Spider, two of his bugbear bodyguards, and an unconscious dwarf. Things turned confrontational, and a fight broke out. Giant Spider’s began to drop from the ceiling to defend their master. As soon as the fight started, however, the Black Spider turned invisible and we never saw him again. We were victorious in fighting off the spiders, and one of the bugbears who had turned traitor on us. At this time, Korgeth and his bugbear warband left to watch the entrance of the cave. Korgeth was going to watch to entrance to make sure the Black Spider did not escape.

The Black Spider had gotten away, but all of his notes were on a table in the room. We read the notes and discovered that the Black Spider had not found the Spell Forge yet. Apparently, the caves were infested with undead. There was also a fungus filled room choked with a green cloud that they could not pass through.

Next, we spoke with the unconscious dwarf after we woke him up. He turned out to be Nundro, the brother of Gundren. We brokered a deal where we would clean out the caves for him, and he would give us 35% of the profits from the mines in return. Terrific!

So… we lockpicked a door to get into an adjacent room and we discovered another Nundro in the room. We asked the new Nundro some questions to try and figure out who the real Nundro was. As soon as the party grew suspicious of the old Nundro, the old Nundro ambushed us. The fake Nundro almost got away, but Aiwendil was able to catch him by summoning his spirit bear. When we killed the fake Nundro, he turned into a lithe grey humanoid that had no face. On the shapeshifter’s body, we discovered a jeweled dagger similar to the one that was in Gundren’s chest.

The real Nundro told us that there was one more shapeshifter around. More importantly, this Nundro knew where the Spell Forge was. This Nundro, however, was much more stingy about striking a business deal and only offered us 20%, but we also had to do less work. Nundro just wanted an escort to Phandalin in exchange for giving us 20%. We agreed and started escorting him to the entrance of the cave.

As we approached the entrance of the cave, Norbeck cast invisibility on Nundro just in case the bugbears would want to harm Nundro. At the entrance, an angry Korgeth refused to let us leave the cave until the Black Spider had been slain. Norbeck lied about going to town to pick something up and coming right back, but Korgeth still would not let us pass. Norbeck offered to go alone and leave the party here so that Korgeth knew he was not lying. Korgeth agreed.

Norbeck and the invisible Nundro left the cave alone, and the rest of the party was left in the cave facing a warband of 10 bugbears.

Wave Echo CaVE

We started the night in Grol’s room when a bunch of Stirges came to feed on the corpses of our enemies. We threw all the corpses into the hallway so that the Stirges wouldn’t bother us, and then went to sleep.

The next day, we started our journey back to Phandalin. Once we arrived, several of us wanted to finish a few tasks before heading out. Zakter collected 3 healing potions from the Sister for talking to Agatha the Banshee. We spent the day in Tressindor Manor, and then headed out to Wave Echo Cave.

In Wave Echo Cave, we found the corpse of what we believe to Gundrun’s brother. There was evidence of a dwarven mining operation, but nobody was to be seen. On the corpse of Gundrun’s brother, we found a pair of Boots of Striding. The only life we initially ran into was a Black Pudding that ambushed us from the cave walls.

Draevar dove into a pool of water after we spotted a skeleton in the water. On the skeleton, Draevar found four platinum rings, and a Wand of Magic Missiles.

We ended that night as we approached a set of stone doors. We could hear some goblins complaining of their hunger from behind the door, so we devised a plan for Korgath to lure them out by offering them food.

Grol's Room

After cleaning up Grol and his followers, we checked his room to find a dead Gundrun. We also found a map of the area, and another map showing the way to Wave Echo Cave. We tried to barricade ourselves in Grols’ room and rest for the night, but we were beset by waves of hobgoblins and bugbears.

After defeating two waves of hobgoblin war bands, a defeated bugbear leader named Kargath swore fealty to us. Kargath would help us kill the Black Spider, and in exchange we would grant him his freedom once the spider was dead.

We rest, then set off to Wave Echo Cave. Zakter wants to find the Spellforge, and believes that Wave Echo cave is the cave that Gundrun meant to prospect.

Two Blints is a Bad Time

We got to a room in the Northeast corner of the keep, and overheard someone talking about the Black Spider. We tried smoking the enemies out of the room using the eversmoking bottle, but they Aiwendil and Norbeck pulled a goblin train.

Our party split up with one group rescuing Aiwendil, and the other group guarding the door where we suspected King Grol was hiding. Unfortunately, a magical darkness enveloped the group that was guarding the barred door and we were ambushed. By the time the Aiwendil rescue group returned, it was complete chaos.

There were two Blints fighting and we had no idea why. One of the Blints managed to run away. In the aftermath, we found Gundrun in the room that caused all this trouble to begin with.

Siege on Craigmaw Keep

We interrogated Siglem the goblin priest to learn that Grol, a bugbear, was the King of Craigmaw Keep. It seemed like the Craigmaws had kidnapped Gundrun after all, and that they were involved with the Black Spider somehow. Siglem said that he did not speak to the Black Spider, it’s possible that the Black Spider is not in Craigmaw Keep.

We met Owlbears. They get two attacks per turn, and they hit pretty hard. They were hitting for 10+ damage each time. Norbeck stepped in front of Rara while Rara was on the ground, and took a hit from the Owlbear to save Rara’s life.

We may have found Sildar Hallwinter’s sword.

Abort Dragon Mission: To Craigmaw Keep

Knowing that Venomfang would be difficult to tackle, Zakter summoned Aziz the imp to aid us. We tried to walk up to Venomfang’s tower, but a cloud of poison gas overtook us and we retreated to Reidoth’s abode.

We took a short rest to recover before deciding that we wanted to sweep through the rest of Thunder Tree. After clearing out the tavern in the Northwest of Thundertree, we decided to make for Craigmaw Keep instead of fighting the dragon. When we asked the imp to help us scout the dragon tower, we realized that there were two dragons there.

Reidoth teleported us to Craigmaw Keep. Draevar guided us around back, and we went in through the ruined side of the keep. Once inside, there was some weird religious shit going on. Alters, carvings in stone walls of angels fighting demons, and goblin priests. Land squids ambushed us in the dark.

Brian yelled at us because we couldn’t beat door boss.

Visiting Thunder Tree
